Electronic Arts recently announced a deal with Universal Pictures to bring EA’s new Army of Two videogame franchise to the big screen.

Scott Stuber (The Kingdom, You, Me, and Dupree) will produce the game-based film along with EA, while screenwriter Scott Z. Burns (The Bourne Ultimatum) has signed on to adapt the game for the screen.

As a PlayStation3 and Xbox 360 videogame, Army of Two involves a pair of military contractors who quickly learn their employer is as corrupt as the people they're sent to take out. The game grossed over $100 million in sales since its release in March 2008.

"Army of Two is a great project that has already attracted top name talent," said Donna Langley, President of Production at Universal Pictures. "We're glad to be working with Electronic Arts on making this hit game into a film franchise."

Universal Pictures, Stuber Productions and EA are planning to begin production of the film in 2009.
