Emergency Mayhem
Wii
As Wii successfully engages the "casual" and "social" gamers, the tots and the grandparents of tots, kids and their parents, software expectations in general become notably lower than the "new generation" average. Emergency Mayhem for Wii does absolutely nothing to argue the point.

Lego Indiana Jones: The Original Adventures
PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3, Wii, Xbox 360
Swapping Force for Fedora, the plastic fantastic Lego games go grave robbing with some whipsmacking professor named Henry. Mind the snakes.

Pro Evolution Soccer 2008
PlayStation 3
You can take the Winning Eleven Seven out of the Pro Evolution Soccer series' title, but the Pro Evolution... nevermind. It doesn't quite do that either.

Iron Man
Xbox 360
No surprises here: another lousy game based on a great summer movie. Slightly surprising is that it comes from Sega, once a game industry powerhouse, now a peddler of tie-ins and tired sequels as often as not.

Dark Sector
PlayStation 3, Xbox 360
Dark Sector smacks of familiarity as it peels key gameplay elements from several top-tier 3rd-person shooters like Gears of War, Uncharted: Drake's Fortune, Heavenly Sword et al. But it's not just imitation flattery, Dark Sector utilizes familiar elements in cleverly blended ways and does itself proud in the process.

Wii Fit
Wii
Be skeptical if you must, but Wii Fit really is a game that's good for your health. Better said, it's a great game that's also good for you health.

Grand Theft Auto IV
PlayStation 3, Xbox 360
It turns out, sometimes hyped-up things really are all they're cracked up to be. Not often, but sometimes. This is one of those times. If you want to see a monster of a videogame and don't have a new-generation console yet, get one. Then get Grand Theft Auto IV.

Universe at War: Earth Assault
Xbox 360
Brought to you by some of the developers involved with the lovingly campy Command & Conquer games, Universe at War: Earth Assault doesn't quite match C&C's kitschy real-time strategy (RTS) shtick, though its gameplay mechanics and interesting mix of races does offer an engaging, albeit wildly unbalanced take on the whole RTS thing.

Silent Hill Origins
PlayStation 2
If you like your videogaming with mood, polish and some freaky scares, it doesn't get any more consistently stylish or creepy than the Silent Hill series. Silent Hill Origins specifically, meanwhile, is illustrative of why the ol' PS2 is still a relevant game system.

Mario Kart Wii
Wii
Have Kart, will race. Have large noggin, will chortle. Have Mario Kart Wii, will frame Page 13 of the manual and add it to the Princess Peach shrine in the basement next to the holographic likeness Farore, Goddess of Courage, Bane of Ganondorf. Take your pick.
